Animals need to have check-ups and proper veterinary care.
We consult and collaborate with experts and specialists to ensure that our animals receive the best possible care.
The health of our animals is critical at Waterberg Wildlife Rescue, but animal health incorporates a lot more than the occasional visit by a vet. Nutrition, husbandry, behavioural and environmental enrichment, water quality, feeding methods all influence the well-being of our animals, and each must be considered in the development of an animal health programme.
WWR has its own team of staff and volunteers who operate and manage the meal plans and preparation. We prepare tailored diets to each animal. The diets are put together with the most up to date scientific information, and are customised per individual animal.
The animals are visually scored on a body chart regularly, as body mass is an indicator of animal health.
Dental maintenance is absolutely crucial to maintaining overall health. Not only does dental maintenance prevent bad breath, but it can assist in the prevention of a multitude of diseases.
Just like we do, animals need their vaccines too. There are a variety of diseases that animals can now be vaccinated against in order to help improve their overall lifespan. Due to our no breeding policy proper contraception and spaying is essential. This also helps prevent uterine infections and tumors, which are malignant/cancerous.
